Odds n ends

Advertising vs. therapy, art vs. mortgage, age vs. death (used to be age vs. youth, that one comes as a shock), freedom vs. security. The usual. Dreamed this morning that a baby girl I knew 12 years ago had turned into a boy. She and her mother were visiting. Nostalgia was thick in the air. Out in the yard all the elder English professors were standing at the bonfire, drinking and yelling and singing along with an old JC Superstar record, on vinyl, and making toasts, a rowdy old bacchanalia. But the adolescents and the middle-aged sat together in the kitchen, talking quietly and seriously about the future.

Yes, extraordinary, isn’t it, how sensible and serious younger people are today?

Nothing frivolous about being young in our world anymore, it seems.

But how marvellous that the older profs were whooping it up!

    Trucie —
Those wicked elders-in-law of mine are incorrigible (you can see them in costume in The Mark of El Zorillo). They set a great example.

Thanks for your comments, by the way — I too am a little befuddled about blog etiquette.
